ALLIEDSIGNAL AUTOMOTIVE TO BUILD $12 MILLION TECHNICAL CENTER NEAR TOLEDO, OHIO

TOLEDO, Ohio, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- AlliedSignal Automotive announced today it will build a technical and administrative headquarters for its filters and spark plugs business near Toledo.
The center, representing an estimated investment of $12 million, will consist of more than 50,000 square feet of laboratory facilities, administrative and sales offices, and a training center for Filters & Spark Plugs personnel. It will allow AlliedSignal to consolidate engineering and original equipment sales and marketing and business management teams formerly located in Fostoria, Ohio, and Rumford, R.I.
The company plans to open the new facility in August 1993 in the Cedar Business Center at State Route 795 and Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township's "Golden Triangle" area, southeast of Toledo. About 85 technical and administrative employees initially will be located there, bringing 55 new jobs to the Toledo area, according to Robert Ruffin, AlliedSignal Automotive's vice president and group manager, Filters & Spark Plugs.
The spark plug manufacturing plant in Fostoria, which employs more than 1,000 people, will remain at its current location, Ruffin said.
"The technical center will enable AlliedSignal Automotive to improve customer service and product development and response time, while better integrating our technical strengths in filters and spark plugs," Ruffin said. "Having our key technical, sales and administrative resources for filters and spark plugs under one roof will reduce our costs and improve our productivity. This new facility demonstrates AlliedSignal's commitment to innovation, quality and productivity to meet the increasing demands of our global automotive customers."
Ruffin said the Perrysburg Township site is centrally located to AlliedSignal Automotive's customers, its filter and spark plug plants, and its headquarters in Southfield, Mich.
"We've received tremendous cooperation from local community and government officials, and we're looking forward to being part of the community here," he said.
The building will be built by Rudolph/Libbe Inc., acting as the design-build contractor. The firm of West Carrol Bergmann is the architect-engineer.
AlliedSignal Automotive manufactures automotive oil, fuel, air and transmission filters and spark plugs under the Fram and Autolite brand names.
AlliedSignal, Inc. is an advanced manufacturing company serving customers worldwide with quality aerospace and automotive products, chemicals, fibers, plastics and advanced materials.
