The cream of the Valley rose to the occasion Saturday, making the second annual Valley of the Stars Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony a $180,000 success.

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
 honored the region's greatest contributors to business, education and the arts and raised money that will go to encourage business development and forging alliances between schools and the private sector.

 School's Highly Gifted Magnet The Highly Gifted Magnet (HGM) is one of the Los Angeles Unified School District's Gifted and Talented programs, restricted to students who meet the criterion of 99.9% on an intellectual assessment that meets the eligibility requirements of the district which is an IQ of 145 or  program.

Of the top 10 Advanced Placement scholars from across the country, six were from the North Hollywood magnet program. They are Benji Kwak, Greg Marsden, Michael Saji, Michael Shulman, Robin Stein and Emily Wang.

Entertainer Dick Clark was master of ceremonies for the black tie gala, hosted by Universal Studios.

``I'm thrilled,'' said Allen. ``It's always an honor to be recognized by one's peers, because it means neighbors and friends.''

Hope did not attend, but he was represented by his grandson, Zach Hope.

``He's fine, but he's really not quite up to it,'' the younger Hope said, adding that his grandfather was pleased with the honor and really loves the Valley. ``He's been rooted here for 60 years, and he's always been bullish about this place.''

The annual gala was created to highlight some of the outstanding people who make the San Fernando Valley a rewarding place to live and work, and to encourage the continued growth of the Valley as a focal point focal point
