ALLIANCE BRINGS ETHERNET CAPABILITY TO ACCESS CONTROL PRODUCTS.

An alliance to standardize a new class of Internet connectivity has been introduced by Lantronix Inc. and HID Corp., both located in Irvine, Calif. This alliance targets access control and asset tracking markets for initial implementations.

The new technology will take remote control and management of equipment and building facilities to the next level, placing input/output controllers within electronic devices. Using TCP/IP TCP/IP

protocols over Ethernet, the alliance will develop standards that enable devices such as proximity readers, door locks and environmental system (HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) In the home or small office with a handful of computers, HVAC is more for human comfort than the machines. In large datacenters, a humidity-free room with a steady, cool temperature is essential for the trouble-free ) control panels to directly interface with access controllers. Through the standard, these devices can also communicate with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer.  systems, such as SAP and Oracle, using widely accepted TCP/IP protocols.

"We are proud that HID, the worldwide leader in the field of RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. As the market leader in RFID/proximity, touch free reading technology, HID will use Lantronix technology in a wide variety of applications including access control, material and asset tracking. "Adding the Ethernet standard interface to our identification technology enables every system integrator to understand and use our components easily, leveraging our experience to a totally new platform," said Don Nelson, president of HID.
