Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Daily News Staff Writer

The inaugural Valley Classic High School All-Star football game, a battle between Southern Section stars and City Section players, will have a distinctly Ventura County flavor to it.

Of the 30-man Southern Section roster, 12 come from Ventura County schools. The team is coached by Westlake's Jim Benkert and Jim Redell from St. Francis in La Canada Flintridge.

``I've seen some of the guys around town or at sporting events and we've talked about how fun it's going to be because we all want to win,'' Nelson said. ``After playing against them, it will be nice to be on the same team.''

``It's like I've peaked as far as playing on the high school level is concerned and now I'll make the jump to college and try to do well there,'' Gonzalez said. ``This game is an opportunity to put on the high school uniform one more time.''

The Southern Section team opens practice on Thursday, May 22. The City team starts a day earlier. They'll both have 10 workouts.
