ALL-OUT WAUGH; CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS AND ACTION SPECIAL Barnsley 3 Burnley 2 Coyle's fury at lineman.

Byline: By ALAN NIXON

BLAZING Burnley pointed angry fingers at referee Nigel Miller and linesman Jock Waugh over the goal that cost them a point.

Boss Owen Coyle Owen Columba Coyle (born July 14, 1966 in Paisley, Renfrewshire) is a Scottish-born footballer who played international football for the Republic of Ireland, and a football manager. He is currently player-manager of St. Johnstone in the Scottish Football League First Division.  and his players protested at the failure to spot that Jamal Campbell-Ryce's shot hit an offside off·side   also off·sides
adv. & adj.
1. Sports Illegally ahead of the ball or puck in the attacking zone.

Simon Whaley Simon Whaley (born June 7, 1985 in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England) is a fast and skillful footballer who plays in midfield or (attack) for Preston North End. He joined Preston for £300,000 from Bury in January 2006 after scoring seven goals in half a season for the Shakers.  on its way into the net for Barnsley's second goal.

"It's a bad, bad decision," said Coyle. "The linesman said his view was obstructed but it couldn't have been by a Burnley player as we had none in sight.

"The linesman is in a good position, he just made a really bad decision. The second goal is a turning point in the game. It's a real sickener, one of the worst feelings I've ever known in football."

Even Tykes manager Simon Davey admitted: "It was a dubious decision, I can see why Owen is upset. He's offside, but it happens. There is a case for video referees when you see that."

Burnley substitute Martin Paterson hit two quick goals to set up a tense finale.

Paterson took clever passes from Robbie Blake to drag Coyle's men back into it and Barnsley keeper Heinz Muller - voted man of the match - saved spectacularly from Chris McCann and Chris Eagles at the death.

Coyle was also left to rue some sloppy defending as Davey's Preston old boys' network paid off spectacularly. Former North End favourite Jon Macken got Barnsley off the mark, while Whaley is on loan from Deepdale.

Macken gave Barnsley the lead against the run of play The term "against the run of play" is used in football (soccer) to describe an event or action against the flow of the game. For example, if team A is having all of the possession, all of the chances and are dictating the game, yet team B have one chance and score from it then that  from a chipped pass by Rob Kozluk, another ex-Preston player, which he finished in trademark style.

Then came Whaley's dodgy dodgy - Synonym with flaky. Preferred outside the US  second goal before another deflection seemed to kill off any Clarets hopes.

This time there was no argument as substitute Diego Leon lashed in a shot that hit skipper Steven Caldwell and sent Brian Jensen the wrong way.

But Paterson added fresh legs to Burnley's attack and threw them a lifeline on 69 minutes from Blake's astute pass before adding a superb second four minutes later when he raced away to beat Muller with a shot inside his near post.

Coyle added: "I couldn't be prouder of the players for the way they fought back, it shows what we are about. The one thing I know is the desire and passion they have.

"But it's a very hard one to take, we merited something out of the game. We seem to be the victims of bad decisions of late."
