ALL-AREA'S GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL DAILY NEWS 2006 ALL-AREA TEAM AND SEASON REVIEW.

Byline: IVAN OROZCO Staff WRITER

Player of the year

Audrey Eichler

HARVARD-WESTLAKE, SENIOR, MIDDLE BLOCKER

Eichler went from sitting on the bench and watching her team lose a Div A DIV Associate of Divinity . III title match last year, to terrorizing opponents and leading her team to a Mission League title this season.

The Boston College-bound, All-CIF Div. I-A first-team selection transferred from Marymount, making her ineligible to play varsity last year.

Eichler's patience paid off. The 6-foot-2 Mission League co-MVP was a dominant force on the Wolverines' front line, often forcing teams to center their game plan on trying to neutralize her attack and avoid her block.

Her 253 kills and 99 blocks were team highs for a Harvard-Westlake of Studio City team that made it to the Div. I-A semifinals, where it was swept by Eichler's former team.

Although it was her first year on the court at Harvard-Westlake, Eichler started the season with high expectations, knowing that other teams would be gunning for her. The pressure didn't faze Eichler. She led the Wolverines to their first win against league rival Flintridge Sacred Heart The Sacred Heart is a religious devotion to Jesus' physical heart as the representation of the divine love for humanity

The Toreadors attack was centered on Soltani's distribution. Her pinpoint sets and left-handed serve earned her co-City Section Player of the Year honors. The three-year varsity starter dedicated her offseason to preparing for a City title-game rematch against SanPedro, and it paid off. Taft beat SanPedro to win the City Section title.
