``Now my life is going to change.''

For employers desperate for skilled workers, it was a golden opportunity. The San Fernando Valley Community Resource & Career Fair matched 63 employers and career agencies with an estimated 1,000 would-be workers in a job market squeezed of qualified applicants.

Hosted by the state Employment Development Department, Keyes Lexus and the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, the fair hoped to help recruit retail workers and holiday help.

A second job fair Oct. 17 will focus on such fields as finance, insurance and the legal profession.

Job analysts expect 29,000 new positions in the Valley this year, adding to an estimated 800,000 jobs at some 70,000 Valley businesses.

``I've been a housewife all this time and it's driving me nuts,'' said Claiborne, 33, of Van Nuys. ``Every woman should get a job and be independent ... do not lose yourself, just because you're a homemaker and a wife.''

Not everyone was thrilled with the job offerings.
