ALL GOOSE EGGS FOR DUCKS IN OT LOSS SHARKS' GOALIE SCHAEFER NETS SHUTOUT SAN JOSE 1, DUCKS 0.

Byline: A.J. Perez Staff Writer

ANAHEIM - There was certainly a retro feel to what transpired in front of an announced crowd of 12,546 at the Pond on Friday night.

Two goalies turned back the clock on the ``new-look NHL'' and all of its rule changes meant to emphasize offense. Mighty Ducks

Mighty Ducks is a half-hour Disney animated series aired on ABC and The Disney Afternoon in the fall of 1996. Twenty-six episodes total were produced.
goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside all 30 shots in regulation and his counterpart on the Sharks was also flawless on 21 shots as the two teams were in a scoreless tie after three periods.

But the game ended before it got to the new-fangled shootout Shootout

slid the puck over to fellow defenseman McLaren, who in turn ripped a shot toward the net.

The puck worked found its way though a scrum in front and past Giguere 51 seconds into OT.

The Ducks were attempting to win a record seventh consecutive home game. Giguere, who had won his previous four games since returning from a groin injury last week, was hunting for his longest winning streak since the 2002-03 season (five games).

San Jose had its own streak going led by Nolan Schaefer, who began the season third on the team's depth chart. The Sharks entered with a four-game winning streak with all those wins by way of third-period comebacks.

That wouldn't be the case this time, however, as neither goalie allowed the opposition to light the lamp.

Giguere was solid from the opening face-off. He turned away 15 shots, three power plays and a short two-man advantage situation in the first period. His closest call through the first two periods came when defenseman Brad Stuart hit the post on a first-period slap shot.

Schaefer had it fairly easy through the first two periods, although he was tested in early in the third twice by Ducks right wing Petr Sykora. Schaefer slid across the crease and stacked his pads three minutes into the period to thwart a point-blank shot by Sykora.
