ALL 1994 MERCEDES-BENZ MODELS TO HAVE STANDARD DUAL AIRBAGS, ABS

MONTVALE, N.J., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- All '94 Mercedes-Benz cars sold in the United States will come equipped with dual airbags. In 1985, Mercedes became the first auto company to make driver-side airbags -- as well as emergency seat-belt tensioning retractors -- standard on all models. In addition, ABS anti-lock brakes (standard on all models since 1988) and such convenience features as an electric sunroof, central locking, automatic climate control, power windows and cruise control will be standard throughout the line for 1994.
With the U.S. introduction this fall of the all-new C-Class, Mercedes will complete its move to full-front airbags on all models. A pioneer in airbag development, Mercedes was also the first automaker to offer a car with a standard-equipment driver's-side airbag, beginning in 1981.
Mercedes-Benz was the original developer of the ABS anti-lock brake system, and later worked in conjunction with the Robert Bosch Corporation to bring a practical system to production. With the introduction of the '92 S-Class sedans, Mercedes also became the only auto company to offer a G-force sensitive brake system which provides improved stopping by automatically fine-tuning front-to-rear brake pressure, depending on whether braking is during straight-ahead driving or when cornering.
