ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality, value-based education, has yesterday (Sunday, November 15, 2009) hosted a major student session on road safety with Formula 3 driver and UN Road Safety Youth Ambassador Basil Shaaban Basil Shaaban (born March 27, 1980) is a Lebanese racing driver. The event was held at the university's campus, where Shaaban participated an interactive session promoting safe driving in the UAE, while sharing with students the tangible reasons that will help understand the importance of road safety law enforcement.
Basil commented: "Driving is my passion, so is promoting road safety. I take this as a real responsibility, particularly as I was brought up in the UAE and I feel it is my duty to help raise the awareness of youth about the dangers of the roads."
Salama demonstrated the use of the "seat belt convincer" --a device that shows the essential safety benefit of using seatbelts to secure vehicle occupants. The device simulates an abrupt stop at between 8 and 12 km/h. This marked yet another occasion for the Salama initiative to use simulators to convince drivers -- they made a major impression during the recent F1 FANZONEao ROAD SAFETY display on the Abu Dhabi Corniche cor·niche
