ALGONQUIN GAS TRANSMISSION COMPANY NAMES JOSEPH HYDOK PRESIDENT

 HOUSTON, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph T. Hydok has been named president and chief operating officer of Algonquin Gas Transmission Company, effective Oct. 1, 1993.
 Hydok will be responsible for the daily operations of Algonquin, the New England-area natural gas pipeline subsidiary of Panhandle Eastern Corporation (NYSE: PEL). Previously, Vern Ludwig served as president of Algonquin and has assumed the position of vice president of corporate development at Panhandle Eastern.

 Hydok recently retired after almost 43 years with Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. He joined Con Edison in 1950 and held various positions of increasing responsibilities for the next 28 years.
 In November 1978, New York Mayor Ed Koch appointed Hydok director of the mayor's Office of Operations, a cabinet-level position, where he served for almost two years. He returned to Con Edison in 1980 as senior vice president of gas and steam operations and was elected to his most recent position, executive vice president of gas operations, in 1989.
 Hydok is a graduate of Long Island University and received a master of business administration degree from the City College of New York. Hydok has served on the board of directors of the American Gas Association (AGA), the Institute of Gas Technology and several other organizations. He is also a past chairman of the New York Gas Group and the Associated Gas Distributors.
 In 1992, Hydok received the AGA Distinguished Service Award, the association's highest and most outstanding award bestowed on an individual for leadership and distinguished service to the industry.
 Algonquin Gas Transmission Company, based in Boston, is a major interstate natural gas supplier serving the New England, New York and New Jersey areas. Algonquin is a subsidiary of Panhandle Eastern Corporation, America's natural gas transportation company, which operates one of the nation's largest interstate natural gas pipeline systems, providing natural gas transportation and related services to the Midwest and Northeast markets.
