ALGERIA - Part 3 - Exports Are Increasing, With Improved Logistics.

Algerian crude oil exports in recent weeks have risen to almost 1m b/d, with oil production averaging about 1.45m b/d, up from 580,000 b/d in February 2003 and 510,000 b/d in the first quarter of 1999. In addition, exports of condensate condensate, matter in the form of a gas of atoms, molecules, or elementary particles that have been so chilled that their motion is virtually halted and as a consequence they lose their separate identities and merge into a single entity.  and gas liquids, including LPGs, average about 600,000 b/d.

In view of strong demand for light/sweet grades, Algeria has been virtually sold out since early 2003. The state-owned petroleum concern Sonatrach imports about 100,000 b/d of heavier crudes for some of its own oil refineries This is a list of oil refineries. The Oil and Gas Journal also publishes a worldwide list of refineries annually in a country-by-country tabulation that includes for each refinery: location, crude oil daily processing capacity, and the size of each process unit in the refinery. , which are purchased by its trading division.

Sonatrach exports of refined oil products have fallen to 280,000 b/d, down from 380,000 b/d in February 2003, 330,000 b/d in February 2001 and 350,000 b/d in the first quarter of 1997. Algeria exports high quality fuels.

The quality of Sonatrach's crude oil exports is among the best in the world. Its Saharan Blend, 45[degrees] API (Application Programming Interface) A language and message format used by an application program to communicate with the operating system or some other control program such as a database management system (DBMS) or communications protocol.  with 0.05% sulphur and negligible metal content, is used in Europe and the US for blending with sour crudes Sour Crude

The name given to barrels of crude oil that do not meet certain content requirements, such as low levels of sulfur and hydrogen.

Notes:
Sour crude future contracts are not as popular as sweet crude oil contracts, as this type of oil is harder to refine compared
. Libya's export crudes, though mostly light and sweet, are more metallic.

Algerian gasoil is ideal for blending into diesel fuel in winter. It is priced at a substantial premium over Russian gasoil. Due to its high viscosity, it is much in demand in Italy, the Netherlands and the US. The quality of Algeria's straight run fuel oil, with 0.3% sulphur, is highly valued as a fuel for power generation and as a cracker (1) A person who breaks into a computer system without authorization, whose purpose is to do damage (destroy files, steal credit card numbers, plant viruses, etc.). Because a cracker uses low-level hacker skills to do cracking, the terms "cracker" and "hacker" have become  feedstock feed·stock
n.
Raw material required for an industrial process.

Noun 1. feedstock - the raw material that is required for some industrial process
raw material, staple - material suitable for manufacture or use or finishing
; it is virtually equal to vacuum gasoil, burned by Italian and US power utilities. Algeria's condensate, 65[degrees] API, has no sulphur and is regularly lifted by Shell's US unit Pecten pecten: see scallop. , Oxy, BP, Repsol, Cepsa, Lyondell, etc.

Although the volume of Algerian oil exports remains small by Middle East standards, an interruption of deliveries in the event of accident or unrest in Algeria could jolt the market. Mention of a sudden turnaround at the Skikda export refinery would cause products prices to rise.
