ALEBRA LAUNCHES PARALLEL DATA MOVER PRODUCT.Making vast amounts of data available at the right place, at the right time, and in the right format is a huge problem in large data centers running new age enterprise applications. Alebra Technologies, Minneapolis, has launched a significant new release of its Parallel Data Mover product that is used by dozens of the world's largest data centers, including Fidelity Investments and Inovant, Visa's technology arm, to solve such problems. PDM (1) (Product Data Management) An information system used to manage the data for a product as it passes from engineering to manufacturing. The data includes plans, geometric models, CAD drawings, images, NC programs as well as all related project data, notes and documents. A PDM also manages the interrelationships between the data so that when changes are made to one database, the effects are highlighted in the others. is heavily used to support data warehousing applications, especially in multi-vendor environments with very large data movement requirements. Bill Yeager, PDM's author and principal architect at Alebra's Atlanta development and support center, states that "the increased functionality provided by this release is exciting and significant, including MVS MVS - Multiple Virtual Storage (IBM mainframe operating system) MVS - Magnetic Voltage Stabilizer MVS - Man Versus System MVS - Managed Voice Services MVS - Manufacture de Voitures de Sport (French car manufacturer) MVS - Maritime Vessel Stopper MVS - McAfee Virus Scan MVS - Mean Vibration Seconds MVS - Mechanical Vibration System MVS - Mechanized Vibrating Screen Manufacturers Association MVS - Mennonite Voluntary Service-MVS data transfer, efficient block movement, the ability to execute processes, programs and jobs on other nodes and get the results back to the source, symbol substitution, a new easier-to-use client interface, enhanced support for VSAM and PDS, and automatic restart." Fidelity has tested PDM 3.1 and plans on using the new functionality to enable direct application-to-application data transfers between coastal data centers. Alebra distributes PDM via partners such as IBM, CNT, Mainline, Intec in Germany, SIA in Spain, and KEL KEL - Kanematsu Electronics Ltd. KEL - Kell-Cellano (blood group system) KEL - Kelme - Costa Blanca (Tour De France cycling sponsor) KEL - Kelvin (temperatire scale) KEL - Kiel, Germany - Holtenau (Airport Code) KEL - Knowledge Engineering Laboratory in Japan. PDM is certified via IBM's TotalStorage Proven(TM) (for sale with IBM's ESS aka "Shark") and ServerProven(TM) programs. Parallel Data Mover Also called a "storage router," it is a device in a backup system that manages the transfer of data to the backup storage. See LAN free backup. 3.1 supports high performance sharing of data between z/OS (OS/390) and open-based servers, as well as between MVS and MVS systems, with robust auditing, security, fault tolerance, and bandwidth optimization features. Can replace InfoMover(TM), RapidXchange(TM), various adaptors PDM can completely replace EMC's InfoMover(TM) product, Hitachi's RapidXchange(TM), and in selected configurations Connect: Direct(TM) products, as well as various single-purpose "legacy" adaptors. PDM supports ESCON(TM) and TCP/IP connectivity over GigE. PDM's systems architecture allows for substantial competitive advantage and TCO savings due to its ability to support multiple applications, its ability to scale, its central administration features, and its exceptional reliability. Parallel Data Mover (PDM) is a cross platform application that allows users to reliably transfer large volumes of data using parallel data streaming technology. Creating extract files to transfer data from a z/OS Server to an open systems database is no longer necessary when using PDM. By providing a one stage data transfer, PDM enables mainframe data to be extracted and then directly loaded into the receiving database. This reduces storage requirements on both ends of the transfer. In addition, PDM is disk vendor neutral, allowing it to execute in multi-vendor disk/DASD environments.
