ALCATEL ALSTHOM REPORTS 1993 FIRST QUARTER ACTIVITY

 PARIS, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel Alsthom (NYSE: ALA), the Paris-based telecommunications, power and transport equipment group, today announced it registered first quarter 1993 orders of 37.2 billion French francs compared to 38.6 billion francs at the end of March 1992, while consolidated sales totaled 35.3 billion francs against 38.4 billion francs for the same period, 1992.
 Excluding exchange rate impact, orders were stable from one period to the other and sales decreased approximately 5 percent. These results indicate, as predicted, an economic slowdown in Europe.
