ALBERT USES `NO FEAR' APPROACH.

Byline: Jim Inghram Daily News Staff Writer

Kimberly Albert turned 17 earlier this month, but the La Reina La Reina (Spanish: "The queen") is a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. It consistently ranks in the top five communes with the best quality of life in the Metropolitan Region.  junior is the old veteran on the girls' soccer team.

 on the Regents' roster.

``It's just me, four sophomores and the rest are freshmen,'' Albert said.

It naturally makes Albert a team leader and her selection as captain has cemented that fact.

``Kimberly is a very smart girl,'' said La Reina coach Joe Laranetta. ``She's not the quickest player, but she knows what she is doing out there. She anticipates really well and that helps her be in the right place at the right time.''

With so many freshmen, who are talented but lack experience, Laranetta basically lets Albert do her thing on the field.

``Kimberly has no fear on the field,'' Laranetta said. ``I don't have to worry about her. She's always going to do what the team needs her to do.''

Said teammate Monica Thompson: ``Kimberly is a very tough player and is a leader for our team. She doesn't hesitate to let someone know when she sees something that is not going right.''

Laranetta said Albert, who plays sweeper, is the best he has had at that position since Jen Brant brant or brant goose, common name for a species of wild sea goose. The American brant, Branta bernicla, breeds in the Arctic and winters along the Atlantic coast. .

In his 16 years at La Reina, Laranetta said that Albert is Albert I, king of the Belgians

amongst the top three or four players he has coached.

``Kimberly is a very talented soccer player,'' Laranetta said. ``She has an excellent attitude and she is a great student.''

All factors that should ensure success for Albert after high school.

``It's my goal to get a scholarship to play soccer in college,'' Albert said. ``I love the game and want to continue playing after I graduate.''

Albert didn't play softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  last year for the Regents, just so she could concentrate on academics and soccer.

``When I played softball as a freshman,'' Albert said. ``I would have softball practice all week, soccer on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and then tournaments for both on the weekend. It was hectic hec·tic

Her grades suffered a bit and Albert took last year off to improve in that area.

if I'm going to play this year,'' Albert said. ``My softball teammates keep asking me if I'll play and my club soccer (Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  Eclipse) teammates say they'll get me if I do. I'm not sure yet.''

It's in Albert's nature to try and do everything and please everyone. It shows in her unselfish play and willingness to play anywhere Laranetta asks.

``On Monday it was our first game in three weeks,'' she said. ``I had been sick for most of that time and coach moved me to center-mid. I had to do a lot of running, but if it helps the team I don't care
