ALBARA CORP. REPORTS 1992 RESULTS

CONROE, Texas, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Albara Corp. (NASDAQ: ALAB) reported gross revenues for the year ended Dec. 31, 1992, of $19,606,000 representing a 95 percent increase over 1991 revenues of $10,044,000. Net losses for the year totaled $76,000 ($0.08 per share) as compared to net income of $81,000 ($0.10 per share) in 1991.
Gross profits of $4,926,000 as a percentage of revenue totaled 25.1 percent in 1992, as compared to $1,980,000 and 19.7 percent, respectively, in 1991. General and administrative expenses totaled $4,938,000, as compared to $1,854,000 in 1991.
Real Provencher, president of the company, stated that "1992 revenue growth of 95 percent furthered the company's historical trend of substantial year-to-year growth, as compared to 52 percent and 69 percent for 1990 and 1991, respectively. New product lines, expanded advertising and the acquisition of a software company have all contributed to our increased revenue stream. The small net loss was as a result of rapidly increasing personnel and marketing costs which were necessitated by the rapid increase in size of the company."
Gross revenues for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992, of $5,251,000 represented a 47 percent increase over 1991 fourth quarter revenues of $3,570,000. Net losses for the quarter totaled $286,000 ($0.33 per share), as compared to earnings of $1,000 ($0.00 per share) in 1991.
Gross profits of $1,245,000 as a percentage of revenue totaled 23.7 percent in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992, as compared to $742,000 and 20.8 percent, respectively, in the same period of 1991. General and administrative expenses of $1,615,000 increased 117 percent, as compared to $744,000 in 1991. The increase occurred primarily as a result of a 160 percent increase in marketing and advertising and a 110 percent increase in personnel expenses.
The increase in marketing and personnel costs occurred as a result of a ramp-up in the operations of the company. Helix Technologies, the company's software subsidiary, commenced the shipment of its first new product at the end of September 1992 and Hardware That Fits, the company's computer hardware reseller, commenced the shipment of its first catalog at the end of October 1992. Both of these efforts represent a considerable investment in the future revenue growth of the company.
The company has two subsidiaries: Hardware That Fits and Helix Technologies. Hardware That Fits is a direct response reseller of Apple Macintosh computers and peripherals such as monitors, printers, scanners and hard drives. Hardware That Fits also sells a line of digital imaging computer products under its own brand name RealTech which offer computer users added value at competitive prices. Hardware That Fits generates the bulk of Albara's revenues and has been in operation since 1989. Helix Technologies is a developer and publisher of relational database software products for the Macintosh computer. The flagship product at Helix Technologies is Helix Express, a powerful database development environment for the Macintosh.
The company's common stock trades on the NASDAQ Small-Cap Market under the symbol ALAB.
