the chaotic political situation in Albania. Italy was preparing Sunday to step up its efforts to lead the military and police contingent for the delivery of food, medicine and other aid, to help prevent the flight of growing numbers of refugees.

The Albanian ambassador in Rome, Pandeli Pasko, presented a list Sunday with 117 names of Albanians he said had been aboard the boat when it went down, including 34 survivors who were taken from the waters of the Adriatic Sea Adriatic Sea (ādrēă`tĭk), arm of the Mediterranean Sea, between Italy and the Balkan Peninsula. The bodies of three women and one man were also recovered.

After he spoke with the survivors, Pasko said they had supplied the names, mostly of women and children. The refugees were said to have been jammed into the boat's hold when it went down in 2,400 feet of water, and he said as many as 79 more people might have perished.

``The frigate frigate (frĭg`ĭt), originally a long, narrow nautical vessel used on the Mediterranean, propelled by either oars or sail or both. Later, during the 18th and early 19th cent.  hit the boat two times,'' Pasko said in a statement, ``first in the back and then on the side, after which the boat capsized.
