brought another round of dramatic weather Saturday with strong winds knocking down power lines and tree branches as temperatures plummeted 10 degrees below normal.

The weather was more like Christmas than Easter as winds of up to 40 mph swept through Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, .

A tree fell on power lines in Woodland Hills, cutting off electricity to 1,600 to 2,400 customers, Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Winifred Yancy said. ``The Valley was hard hit.''

The windy conditions prompted the National Weather Service to issue a wind advisory for Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County until 3 a.m. Sunday. Weather Service meteorologist Bruce Rockwell said the advisory might be extended to noon.

``Winds will be strong enough in some areas this evening to cause some tree limbs and branches to break,'' a weather service statement said. ``Strong winds will also create difficult driving conditions, particularly on roads with north-south orientations which will suffer strong crosswinds.''

``The previous systems have caused rain showers, but this one is causing more wind and only isolated rain showers,'' Weather Service meteorologist Clint Simpson said.

An unexpectedly cold Alaskan storm brought snow, hail and thundershowers to Southern California on Thursday.

In some areas Saturday, the wind-driven air made the cold temperatures feel worse.

``The temperature is still too high to measure the wind chill wind chill, the cooling effect of wind and temperature combined, expressed in terms of the effect produced by a lower, windless temperature, also called wind chill factor, wind chill temperature, wind chill equivalent temperature, wind chill index, wind chill , but with temperatures in the 50s and winds of 40 mph, it's safe to say that it feels like it's in the 20s,'' Rockwell said.

``It's just an unusually late winter storm,'' he said. ``We've had other years like this, but it's kind of unusual.''

The normal high temperature for this time of year is 71 degrees.

The winds and stormy conditions along the California coast also whipped up surf along shore, prompting the Weather Service to issue a heavy surf advisory for Los Angeles County beaches.
