ALASKA TO SERVE MEXICO CITY; WILL EXPAND GUADALAJARA SERVICE TO ONTARIO

SEATTLE, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines will begin daily nonstop round-trip service between Mexico City and Ontario, Calif., and one-stop service between Mexico City and San Jose, Calif., on Dec. 13, the carrier announced today.
On the same day, Alaska will begin nonstop round-trip service between Ontario, located in the Los Angeles Basin, and Guadalajara.
Alaska will be the only U.S. carrier in both markets, and will fly the routes once per day with 138-seat McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft. Customs facilities in Ontario will be in place late this fall.
Alaska secured authority to serve Ontario-Mexico City a year ago. It has applied for Ontario-Guadalajara authority and expects approval to be forthcoming. Alaska already serves Guadalajara with nonstop round- trips from Los Angeles and San Francisco and one-stops from San Jose.
In the Mexico City market, southbound flights will leave San Jose at 8:55 a.m. and Ontario at 10:45 a.m., arriving in Mexico City at 4:09 p.m. The northbound leg will depart Mexico City at 5:05 p.m., arriving in Ontario 6:50 p.m. and San Jose at 9:05 p.m.
Ontario-to-Guadalajara flights will depart at 11:30 p.m., arriving in Guadalajara at 4:30 a.m. Northbound segments depart at 6:05 p.m., arriving in Ontario at 7:30 p.m.
Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and the largest city in the world with a population in the greater metropolitan area of about 20 million. It will be the fifth Mexican destination in Alaska's 45-city route system, joining Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Los Cabos.
