ALASKA AIRLINES TO BEGIN PHOENIX-PUERTO VALLARTA NONSTOP SERVICE ON OCTOBER 5.


SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1995--Alaska Airlines will begin daily nonstop round-trip service from Phoenix to Puerto Vallarta Puerto Vallarta (pwār`tō väyär`tä), city (1990 pop. 93,503), Jalisco state, W Mexico. Located on the expansive Bahía de Banderas [Bay of Flags], Puerto Vallarta has been used since the 16th cent.  starting October 5.

Pending approval by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Alaska will become the first and only scheduled airline to offer nonstop flights between the two cities. McDonnell Douglas McDonnell Douglas was a major American aerospace manufacturer and defense contractor, producing a number of famous commercial and military aircraft. It merged with Boeing in 1997 to form The Boeing Company.  MD-80 aircraft seating 140 will be used on the route.

Puerto Vallarta is nestled on the shores of Banderas Bay on Mexico's West Coast. The city features cobblestone streets and colonial architecture and is surrounded by lush tropical jungle.

Flights will depart Phoenix at 11:10 a.m. and arrive in Puerto Vallarta at 2:40 p.m. Return flights depart at 3:20 p.m., arriving in Phoenix at 5 p.m.

Also on October 5, Alaska will increase Phoenix-Los Cabos service to one round-trip daily. In summer months, the market is served four times per week. For more information, contact a travel agent or call Alaska Airlines at 1-800-426-0333.
