 ALASKA AIRLINES SEEKS NONSTOP ROUTE
BETWEEN SEATTLE AND MEXICAN RESORT CITIES
SEATTLE, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines today applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation for authority to provide non- stop and one-stop service between Seattle and the Mexican resort cities of Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.
If the request is approved, Alaska expects to begin service Jan. 12 using 136-seat Boeing 727-200 aircraft. Alaska would be the only regularly scheduled carrier in the market.
David Palmer, Alaska's assistant vice president of marketing, said the application reflects the airline's growing interest and success in Mexico and its continuing commitment to a strong north-south route structure on the West Coast.
The airline would offer four round-trip flights a week -- nonstop to Mazatlan and continuing to Puerto Vallarta on Fridays and Sundays and nonstop to Puerto Vallarta and continuing to Mazatlan on Saturdays and Mondays.
Alaska also offers daily service to the two cities from Seattle through Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Seattle-based Alaska Airlines serves 38 cities in Alaska, Mexico, Canada, the Soviet Union and five Western states.
