Alaska Alaska (əlă`skə), largest in area of the United States but third smallest (exceeding only Vermont and Wyoming) in population, occupying the northwest extremity of the North American continent, separated from the coterminous United States  Airlines' February traffic increased 15 percent to 542 million revenue passenger miles Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) is a measure of a passenger traffic for an airline flight, bus, or train calculated by multiplying the total number of revenue-paying passengers aboard the vehicle by the distance traveled measured in miles.  (RPMs) from 472 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during February was 977 million available seat miles Available seat miles (ASM) is a measure of an airline flight's passenger carrying capacity. It is equal to the number of seats available multiplied by the number of miles flown. This measures an airlines capacity for transporting passengers.  (ASMs), 25 percent higher than the 783 million in February 1994.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare paying passengers) for the month was 55.5 percent, compared to 60.3 percent in February 1994. The airline carried 636,200 passengers compared to 565,600 in February 1994.

Revenue passenger miles for the two-month period totaled 1.131 billion, an 18 percent increase from the 960 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the two months ended February 1995 increased 25 percent to 2.067 billion ASMs, up from 1.648 billion in 1994.

The passenger load factor in 1995 was 54.7 percent, down from 58.3 percent in 1994. The airline carried 1,319,000 passengers, compared to 1,136,000 in 1994.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon Air's February traffic increased 26 percent to 57 million RPMs from 45 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for February was 98 million ASMs, 28 percent higher than last year's 76 million.

The passenger load factor for the month was 58.3 percent, compared to 59.2 percent last February. The airline carried 265,400 passengers compared to 219,700 in February 1994.

Revenue passenger miles for the two-month period totaled 118 million, a 32 percent increase from the 90 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the two months ended February 28, 1995 increased 34 percent to 209 million ASMs, up from 156 million in 1994.

The passenger load factor was 56.6 percent, down from 57.6 percent for the two month period last year. The airline carried 548,600 passengers, compared to 434,400 for the same period in 1994.
