It was performed months after the ban on lighting up in enclosed spaces. Smith said: "I had to agree not to light up or the venue would be shut." Labour former health minister Andy Kerr, responsible for the ban, said: "With regard to the description, I suggest Mr Smith looks in the mirror. Those who voted for the ban did so without any degree of self-righteousness."
