ALARCON EXPECTED TO RULE OUT RUN FOR MAYOR OF VALLEY CITY.

State Sen. Richard Alarcon will end months of speculation about his political future by announcing he will not run for mayor of a proposed San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Alarcon, D-Van Nuys, refused on Wednesday to confirm he has decided against seeking the job in the Nov. 5 election, but the sources said he will announce he's not running during a news conference this morning.

Voters will be asked in November to decide whether the Valley should become its own city as well as elect a mayor and a 14-member city council. For secession to pass, it must be approved by a majority of voters in the Valley and a majority citywide including the Valley.

Alarcon was first elected to the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  in 1993, serving until 1998 when he was elected to the state Senate. His term there runs until 2006.
