ALAMO'S EXPRESS PLUS SERVICE EXPANDS TO 13 ADDITIONAL CITIES; POPULAR HIGH SPEED SERVICE TO BE AVAILABLE NATIONWIDE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Alamo Rent A Car's new Express Plus service, which is receiving high marks from corporate customers for its less than 60-second transaction time, has now expanded to an additional 13 markets. The nation's largest independently owned and operated car rental company plans to expand Express Plus service to all of its locations nationwide in 1994.
The additional Alamo Express Plus locations are Washington National; Houston Hobby; San Diego; Reno, Nev.; Orlando, Fla.; Minneapolis; Seattle; Las Vegas; Portland, Ore.; Jacksonville, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Tallahassee, Fla.
"Good news spreads fast, and our Express Plus service is very good news for business travelers," said Bob Coffey, Alamo's vice president of Marketing. "Business travelers really like service and they're asking for it in all locations. That's why we're moving full speed ahead to expand Express Plus nationwide and give our customers what they want."
Alamo Express Plus employs state-of-the-art computer equipment designed specifically for high-speed transactions. Here's how the service works: The customer inserts their Alamo Express card, or other valid credit card listed on their Master Rental Agreement, into the transaction device at the rental counter.
The Alamo computer automatically locates the reservation, authorizes the charge, allocates the preferred car class and prints the rental agreement -- all in less than 60 seconds. After a simple verification of the customer's driver's license, the customer is ready to go.
To qualify for Alamo Express Plus, customers must have a contracted corporate rate with Alamo and complete a Master Rental Agreement. Advance reservations are required, and customers must reserve an intermediate car or better.
Express Plus was initially introduced in September in Boston; Newark, N.J.; Philadelphia; St. Louis; Detroit; Chicago; Houston Intercontinental; Dallas/Fort Worth; Phoenix and Los Angeles. With a total of 23 locations currently offering Express Plus, the service is now available to more than two-thirds of Alamo's corporate clients.
Future plans call for Express Plus to reach additional cities in January 1994, and for the service to be expanded to all domestic Alamo locations by April 1994.
Alamo currently serves over 10 million travelers a year through 111 high-volume locations in the United States, plus 29 international locations in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ireland and The Netherlands.
Alamo was the first major car rental firm in the country to move to a logo-free fleet nationwide and to provide every renter with a Traveler's Safety Alert.
