AL NOTEBOOK: ANGELS FEEL PIERZYNSKI'S PAIN.Byline: DOUG PADILLA Douglas ("Doug") Padilla (born October 4, 1956 in Oakland, California) is a former middle and long distance runner from the United States, who won the overall Grand Prix 1985 and the World Cup 5000m race in 1985. Staff Writer Leave it to a madman like Vicente Padilla Vicente Padilla (born September 27, 1977 in Chinandega, Nicaragua) is a professional baseball player, a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Texas Rangers. He has also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and, most notably, the Philadelphia Phillies. to get the Angels to actually sympathize with Verb 1. sympathize with - share the suffering of compassionate, condole with, feel for, pity grieve, sorrow - feel grief commiserate, sympathise, sympathize - to feel or express sympathy or compassion a guy like A.J. The White Sox are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the White Sox have played in U.S. . Guerrero became a target apparently for his domination over the Rangers, while Rivera was sought out because some Texas players weren't happy with how he posed to watch a three-run home run during an Aug. 5 game at Anaheim. With White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen never one to not have an opinion on a subject, he again weighed in on Padilla after the Angels' incident last week. Guillen believes Padilla is among the American League American League (AL) One of the two associations of professional baseball teams in the U.S. and Canada designated as major leagues; the other is the National League (NL). leaders in hit batters because he is taking advantage of not having to come to the plate anymore like he did when he played with the Philadelphia Phillies “Phillies” redirects here. For other uses, see Phillies (disambiguation). The Philadelphia Phillies are a professional baseball team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. . This is how bad Padilla's reputation has become around the league: Guillen openly mocked Rangers manager Buck Showalter twoseasons ago, but he isn't blaming him for Padilla's transgressions. Maybe Guillen's league-mandated sensitivity classes are working when it comes to Showalter and perhaps he should take Padilla to his next meeting. First time for everything: The Angels' Adam Kennedy, who charged the mound after he was hit in Wednesday's game at Texas, said it was the first time he had ever done something like that in all his years of playing baseball. When he finally decided to go, the 6-foot Kennedy found himself approaching the 6-foot-6 Scott Feldman and was at a major reach disadvantage. Kennedy said he took some grief for his fighting style on the plane ride home from Texas. Kennedy also was tackled on the infield by Rangers third baseman Mark DeRosa, a former football player at Penn. One way Kennedy knows he hasn't lost any respect from Rangers position players is that he believes DeRosa could have put a more punishing hit on him. A-1 rival: The Oakland Athletics have become the Angels' most heated AL rival, but maybe the Angels should start playing with a little more anger when they face Seattle. The Mariners have lost 15consecutive games to the A's, which hasn't helped the Angels' cause in the AL West standings. If the Mariners had just played .500 baseball against the A's so far this season, the Angels would have headed into the weekend with a half-game lead in the division instead of trailing by six games. The Mariners actually would have been in second place at 63-58, while the A's would have been 61-59 and tied with the Texas Rangers in third place. What else have all those victories over the Mariners meant to the A's? Throwing out the 16 games between the teams, the A's would have a 53-51 record (before play Friday) and the Mariners would be 1 1/2 games better at 55-50. doug.padilla@sgvn.com (626) 962-8811, Ext. 2731 CAPTION(S): photo Photo: PADILLA |
