Semiconductor today introduced the AK5394, an ultra-high performance 24-bit two-channel A/D converter with 123dB dynamic range, the highest performance available in the industry.

AKM, already positioned as the industry's performance leader with widely acclaimed 24-bit A/D converters, now allows for audio systems to sample up to 192kHz, another industry first for AKM. With specifications matched for the demands of DVD-audio offering improved sampling performance, the AK5394 features a built-in high performance digital filter and the widest dynamic range in the industry today. These advances make it ideal for consumer products such as AV amplifiers, and for high-end Professional audio equipment such as DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

 editing system and digital mixers.

The new AK5394 is near pin-compatible with the previous converters from AKM, the AK5393 a 24-bit stereo A/D Converter with 96kHz sampling and 117dB performance. Released in June 1998 and well regarded for its performance standard in many high-end consumer and professional applications, this new converter allows for a wider sampling range and improved performance.

This new release uses AKM's newly developed delta-sigma modulator to achieve the market-first 123dB audio ADC (1) See A/D converter.

performance. The advanced multi-bit delta-sigma technology has enabled achievement of a dynamic range that is twice that of previous enhanced dual-bit systems. This new modulator offers many other advantages never allowed before, such as the first ADC to achieve 123dB and consume less than 600mW, beating the nearest competition by 3dB and by cutting their power by two-thirds.

Besides being the industry-leader single-chip, 24-bit, 192kHz A/D converter, AK5394 offers 128X oversampling Creating a more accurate digital representation of an analog signal. In order to work with real-world signals in the computer, analog signals are sampled some number of times per second (frequency) and converted into digital code. , fully differential inputs, 24-bit digital filter and strong resistance to jitter designed into this revolutionary modulator design.

Available in a 28-pin SOP package, AK5394 engineering samples are available now. An evaluation board is available to speed system design efforts. The AK5394 is priced at $30.00 for 1K pcs.
