AK Steel Corp. sets carbon steel continuously cast world record. (North America).


AK Steel Corp., Ashland, Kentucky Ashland is a city located in Boyd County, Kentucky, USA, nestled along the banks of the Ohio River. The population was 21,981 at the 2000 census. Ashland is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). , has broken its own world record for consecutive heats of carbon steel continuously cast. In a sequence that began August 7, crews cast 1851 consecutive heats of steel, surpassing its own record of 1721 set in April 1997. During the 50-day sequence, the firm produced nearly 535,000 slab tons, with 61 steel grade changes.
