AIRTRAN REPORTS FISCAL 1993 EARNINGS

 MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, Minn., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- AirTran Corporation, (NASDAQ-NMS: ATCC), parent company of Mesaba Aviation, Inc., today reported earnings of $6,740,000 or $.75 per share for the company's fiscal year ended March 31, 1993. The results reflect a 16 percent increase over net earnings of $5,822,000 or $.66 per share for the fiscal year ended March 31, 1992. AirTran's fiscal 1993 operating revenues increased 21 percent to $124,331,000 from $102,389,000 reported during the previous year.
 Robert D. Swenson, president of AirTran, said, "We are pleased to report record passenger traffic, revenues and earnings for fiscal 1993. Our growing fleet of new 37-seat deHavilland Dash 8 turbo-props is supporting a significant portion of our system expansion and helping to reduce our cost per available seat mile." Revenue passenger miles rose 25 percent in fiscal 1993 to 270,000,000 from 216,000,000 in fiscal 1992.
 Earnings of $339,000 or $.04 per share were recorded for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1993 compared to $244,000 or $.02 per share for the same quarter last year. Operating revenues totaled $30,058,000 for the quarter, an increase of 23 percent from $24,518,000 in the fourth quarter of the prior year.
 Mesaba Aviation, Inc., is regional airline which operated as Northwest Airlink under a marketing agreement with Northwest Airlines. Mesaba currently provides scheduled service to forty-six cities in fifteen states and one Canadian province.
 AirTran's common stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol ATCC.
