AIRPORT SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES MAJOR MIDDLE EASTERN CONTRACT; EXPECTS HIGHER EARNINGS IN FOURTH FISCAL QUARTER.

(Nasdaq/NM:ASII) today announced that it has been awarded contracts valued at $4.1 million to supply ground- based navigation equipment and systems in the Middle East and United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

"The award of these contracts extends the positive momentum from the contracts we announced in January for the installation of navaids and systems in Korea, Finland, Vietnam and Indonesia totaling approximately $5.4 million. These awards bring the total bookings in the past five months to over $11.0 million. Our current order backlog now approximates $9.0 million, up sharply from the $5.0 million in unshipped orders at the end of last year."

Cowan said, "Approximately one-half of this backlog is scheduled for shipment in the fourth quarter of fiscal 1996. Based on this, we expect to achieve higher revenues compared with $4.3 million in the fourth period a year ago and a significant increase in earnings versus net earnings of $203,000, or $0.08 per share, in the fourth quarter of fiscal 1995."

The Middle Eastern contract involves producing, installing and commissioning three ILSs (Instrument Landing System), two VORs (VHF (Very High Frequency) The range of electromagnetic frequencies from 30 MHz to 300 MHz.  Omni Range) and five DMEs (Distance Measuring Equipment Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) is a transponder-based radio navigation technology that measures distance by timing the propagation delay of VHF or UHF radio signals. ). The Company also announced that it has received a three-year contract, with an option to extend for two additional years, from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Under this contract, Airport Systems will supply any new navaid equipment, including Localizers, Glideslopes, Marker Beacons A marker beacon is a beacon used in aviation in conjunction with an instrument landing system (ILS), to give pilots a means to determine distance to the runway. There are three types of marker beacons on an ILS.  and DME, to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
