BURBANK Burbank, city (1990 pop. 93,643), Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1911. Tourism and the entertainment industry are central to its economy; several motion-picture studios and television headquarters are here. Burbank's aerospace industry collapsed with the end of the Cold War.  - In another sign that Burbank Airport officials are giving up on their first choice for a new terminal site, administrators have recommended that a parking lot on the property be replaced with a costly elevated structure at another location.

But since the property was put up for sale after airport and Burbank representatives could not agree on plans for a new terminal at the site, airport officials say they have been forced to look for an alternate location to meet their parking needs.

Officials have recommended constructing a 613-space, elevated structure at Parking Lot C as a replacement for the spaces on the B-6 site.

``There is a general belief that the property will be sold, so we can't rely on it for our parking,'' said Victor Gill gill, in weights and measures

Gill refused to say whether any offers have been made on the property since it was listed in February.

The proposal will be discussed today by an Airport Authority subcommittee sub·com·mit·tee

Plans for a new 14-gate terminal on the B-6 property called for 5,000 parking spaces, but Gill said ``that's irrelevant at this point.''

After the Burbank City Council said in January it would not consider the 14-gate terminal without a new environmental review, the Airport Authority withdrew its application for the project. In February, the authority voted to conduct a study on an alternative site, a 14-acre parcel that is already zoned for airport use.

Officials have been seeking to overhaul the airport's 71-year-old terminal since 1980.
