AIRPORT HAS NEW SAFETY CHIEF MICHAEL POST RETIRING FROM JOB.

Byline: Alex Dobuzinskis Staff Writer

BURBANK - Officials on Monday announced that a former La Habra La Habra (lə hăb`rə), city (1990 pop. 51,266), Orange co., S Calif.; inc. 1925. A suburb of Los Angeles, La Habra was settled in the 1860s by Basque sheepherders.  police chief has become the head of public safety at Bob Hope Airport Bob Hope Airport (IATA: BUR, ICAO: KBUR, FAA LID: BUR) is a regional and national airport located in Burbank, California, United States.

It was formerly known as United Airport (1930-1934); Union Air Terminal (1934-1940);
, replacing a retiring safety chief who built up the airport's police force after Sept. 11, 2001.

Steven Staveley, 60, will be paid $12,750 per month to oversee a force of 30 officers and 20 firefighters. A law enforcement officer since 1967, Staveley was chief of police in the Bay Area community of Belmont from 1987 to 1990, and he was chief in La Habra from 1990 to 1999.

Staveley said he is impressed with the public safety department's level of training, and he noted that terrorism is its most important priority.

``It's a very challenging job. Plus they spend most their time standing on their feet, which adds to the physical abuse that the officer takes,'' Staveley said.

Staveley, who took over his new role last week, is replacing former Chief Mike Post, 55, who is retiring. Post will remain on the job until Jan. 7 to help with the transition.

By many accounts, Post is credited with bringing the public safety department to maturity after the terrorist attacks in 2001.

When he took over the newly created position of head of public safety on Dec. 10, 2001, the department had 11 police officers and was not certified See certification.  through the state Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, or POST. Under him, the department received its POST certification and reached its target size of 30 officers.

``We have really ramped up our police department, and we owe a lot of the credit (for) that to Mike Post. And now we're transitioning into a stable law enforcement agency Noun 1. law enforcement agency - an agency responsible for insuring obedience to the laws
FBI, Federal Bureau of Investigation - a federal law enforcement agency that is the principal investigative arm of the Department of Justice
,'' said Charles Lombardo, president of the Bob Hope Airport commission.

Post, a former Glendale police captain, said he was proud to see the department evolve in counterterrorism coun·ter·ter·ror

For the past three years, Staveley was a liaison for the California attorney general The California Attorney General is the State Attorney General of the government of the state of California in the USA.
