BURBANK Burbank, city (1990 pop. 93,643), Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1911. Tourism and the entertainment industry are central to its economy; several motion-picture studios and television headquarters are here. Burbank's aerospace industry collapsed with the end of the Cold War.  - The Bob Hope Airport Bob Hope Airport (IATA: BUR, ICAO: KBUR, FAA LID: BUR) is a regional and national airport located in Burbank, California, United States.

It was formerly known as United Airport (1930-1934); Union Air Terminal (1934-1940);
 has announced plans to spend $41.5 million to buy the adjacent Star Park lot, which had competed fiercely with the airport's own parking services since its January 2003 opening.

Purchase of the 2,200-space lot will not add parking for average airport customers, since airport officials plan to use the lot for valet and rental car parking. The airport had 5,500 spaces.

But sale of the Star Park Lot, owned by Los Angeles-based Zelman Development Co., would end price wars that have cost the airport millions.

In the fiscal year before Star Park opened, the airport had $15.1 million in parking revenues. That dropped to $12.2 million the next year. Burbank officials estimate they lost $894,000 in parking tax revenue because of the price cuts.

``The acquisition of this lot ... has a significant economic benefit to the Airport Authority, the city and other private owners of airport parking lots - all of whom have suffered economic loss due to reduced parking rates,'' said Charles Lombardo, president of the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.

The airport would buy 26.7 acres from Zelman, while Zelman will retain nearly five acres on which it may build restaurants, said Ben Reiling, chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. The Star Park purchase settles a lawsuit lawsuit: see procedure; tort.  between the airport and Zelman. The authority sued Zelman before Star Park opened, arguing it had no right to directly access airport property. A year ago, the airport built a fence to keep users of Star Park from walking to the airport terminal.

The 7-0 vote by the Airport Authority on the sale came a day after a proposed agreement on airport growth between the airport and city of Burbank was announced.

The deal would keep the airport from building a new terminal for the next 10 years and from expanding its existing terminal for the next seven years.

``It's good for the community of Burbank, and it's good for all parties ... that the litigation has come to an end,'' said Airport Commissioner Chris Holden Holden, town (1990 pop. 14,628), Worcester co., central Mass., a residential suburb of Worcester; settled 1723, set off and inc. 1741.
