AIRPORT ARREST IN LAPPIN MURDER; 10 suspects face day two of questions.

TEN murder suspects were today facing a second day of questioning over the fatal stabbing of a teenage Liverpool army cadet.

All but one of the suspects - aged between 16 and 23 - were arrested yesterday in a dawn operation.

The arrests followed an eight-month investigation into the murder of 16-year-old Joseph Lappin.

As he stepped off a flight from Spain he was met at Customs by police officer and brought back to Merseyside for questioning.

All of the suspects are from the Vauxhall area of Liverpool.

They are being quizzed about Joseph's murder on October 20 last year.

Joseph and his two friends were stood outside the Shrewsbury House Youth Club, in Langrove Street, Everton, while one of them had a cigarette.

The former Cardinal Heenan pupil was visiting the youth club for the first time, having been to the weekly music club to watch a friend's band.

Their parents were so worried about them roaming the streets they made the boys get a bus to Anfield and then a taxi the rest of the way to the club.

The parents of one of his friends - Callum Nadem - were waiting for a call to go and pick the boys up.

But, in an unprovoked attack, they were chased by a gang of up to 15 youths.

Joseph was stabbed through the heart but managed to stagger back inside the youth club before he collapsed and died.

Callum, 17, was also knifed several times but survived the attack.

Joseph and Callum had been friends since nursery school nursery school, educational institution for children from two to four years of age. It is distinguishable from a day nursery in that it serves children of both working and nonworking parents, rarely receives public funds, and has as its primary objective to promote  and Callum was teaching Joseph how to play the guitar.

He planned to join the army after finishing his studies.

In the weeks after the murder police arrested 15 men and youths from across north Liverpool. They were later released on bail.

A Merseyside police spokeswoman said: "All of the suspects remain in custody and are expected to be spoken to throughout the day."
