LAX, for instance, had 32.7 million passengers from January January: see month.  through June June: see month. , down slightly from 32.9 million during the same period last year.

But LAX remains more than 50 percent over its official annual capacity of 40 million passengers. The airport saw a 4.5 percent increase over its 64.3 million passengers in 1999.

Los Angeles World Airports' LAX Master Plan calls for the addition of a giant terminal to increase capacity to 89 million passengers annually.
