AIRGAS, INC. ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCTION FACILITY FOR ACETYLENE GAS

 WILMINGTON, Del., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Airgas, Inc. (NYSE ARG), today announced construction of a new production facility for acetylene gas.
 On Sept. 4, 1993, Airgas entered into a multi-year agreement with Dow Corning Corporation for the supply of high purity acetylene gas via pipeline to Dow Corning's Midland, Mich., production facility. The anticipated sales to Dow Corning Corporation over the term of the agreement are $15 million.
 In addition, the facility will compress and package acetylene to supply Airgas retail locations throughout Michigan.
 Acetylene is used as a fuel gas in metal fabrication and as a feed stock in the chemical industry.
 Airgas, Inc. is the largest producer of acetylene nationwide with 14 production facilities and is also a major producer of calcium carbide -- the raw material used for the manufacture of acetylene.
 Currently, the Airgas distributor network includes over 300 locations in 36 states and Canada.
 Airgas, Inc. is the largest distributor of industrial, medical, and specialty gases and related equipment in the United States with annual sales in excess of $500 million.
