A state Court of Appeal rejected the city's effort to overturn an injunction that allows Syncro Aircraft Interiors to stay at the airport while the company's lawsuit over its eviction is litigated.

Douglas D. Winter, an attorney representing Syncro along with former District Attorney Ira Reiner Ira Reiner was Los Angeles City Controller from 1977 to 1981, and was City Attorney from 1981 to 1984, both times being succeeded by James Hahn. He was the Los Angeles County District Attorney from 1984 to 1992. , called it ``another victory.''

Syncro President Barbara Cesar said she never really understood why the airport sought to evict the company.

``We've tried to work with them to get a long-term lease and we figure they had someone in mind for this facility,'' Cesar said.

The city's Airport Commission voted last year to evict the company in what was described as an effort to move nonaviation companies and fix the company's hangar, which was damaged in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in the city of Los Angeles, California. ``There were a lot of discussions about a new long-term lease and then, basically without warning, in August 1999, the Department of Airports informed us and Syncro they were going to be seeking proposals from anybody interested in leasing their space,'' Winter said.

Tom Gutierrez, a deputy city attorney, said he was surprised by the court upholding a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Superior Court judge's injunction.

Syncro has been a long-term tenant at the airport. The company restores and refurbishes private jet aircraft and currently occupies a World War II-era hangar and ramp space at the airport. Winter said the company has made extensive repairs since it first occupied the facility.

The company has also leased out the hangar to studios to film TV shows and movies.
