AIRCO TO BUILD OXYGEN PSA GENERATOR FOR STRUCTURAL METALS

AIRCO TO BUILD OXYGEN PSA GENERATOR FOR STRUCTURAL METALS
MURRAY HILL, N.J., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Airco Gases today

announced it has been awarded a contract to build an oxygen pressure- swing-adsorption (PSA) generator for Structural Metals, Inc. The 35-ton/day generator will supply oxygen to SMI's steel mill at Sequin, Texas.
Expected onstream in April 1992, the new unit will be the second oxygen generator that Airco has installed at the Sequin location. SMI, which uses oxygen primarily for melting assistance in the manufacture of approximately 550,000 tons of steel annually, says that strong demand for the company's steel products required an additional oxygen production facility to be built.
SMI is a subsidiary of Commercial Metals Co. (NYSE: CMC), a diversified company that produces and fabricates steel, trades and markets metals and raw materials, and provides recycling and financial services. Headquartered in Dallas, Commercial Metals has annual revenues in excess of $1 billion. In addition to Sequin, SMI operates steel mills in Alabama and Arkansas.
Airco Gases is a leading manufacturer and supplier of industrial gases and gas handling technology in the United States. The company's primary gas products include cryogenic and non-cryogenic nitrogen and oxygen, as well as argon, carbon dioxide, helium, hydrogen and a variety of medical, rare and special gases.
Airco is a member of the BOC Group, the worldwide gases and healthcare company operating in more than 60 countries with sales last year of $5.2 billion.
