AIR ONTARIO ANNOUNCES OTTAWA - NEWARK SERVICE

LONDON, Ontario, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Ontario today announced that it has been granted the Canadian authority to begin service between Ottawa and Newark, New Jersey. An official announcement was made today by Canadian Minister of State for Transportation, Shirley Martin.
The next step in the process is route approval from the U.S. Department of Transport. Assuming approvals are forthcoming within the next 30 days, Air Ontario is targeting a September 1993 start-up.
This market will initially be served with five direct return flights each weekday; one will be non-stop and four will operate via Toronto Island. The schedule will ensure convenient options for passengers traveling locally between Ottawa and Newark and efficient connections to and from Continental Airlines at Continental's Newark hub. Air Ontario has a variety of joint fares with Continental to several destinations throughout the northeastern U.S. and along the eastern seaboard.
Air Ontario Director of Commercial Services, Scott Tapson, says that the airline is delighted to have the opportunity to serve this market. "The future growth of our company relies on our ability to expand into the U.S. marketplace. Air Ontario is extremely well-suited to serve the needs of the traveling public on a route such as this one."
Air Ontario, one of five Air Canada Connector carriers, is Ontario's leading regional airline, serving London, Ottawa, North Bay, Sarnia, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Timmins, Toronto Pearson, Toronto Island, Windsor, Montreal and Winnipeg. With more regularly scheduled daily flights to these destinations than any other airline, it also offers direct flights into the U.S. to Newark, Hartford, Cleveland and Baltimore-Washington.
