AIR METHODS PREDICTIONS FEATURED IN EXCLUSIVE VOICE OF AMERICA
 INTERNATIONAL OVERSEAS RADIO INTERVIEW
DENVER, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Methods Corp. (NASDAQ: AIRM) recently predicted that the worldwide market for aeromedical transportation services and systems will surge from $391 million in 1991 to $1.8 billion by the year 2001. The market prediction was recently made by the company's chairman and CEO, W. Terrance Schreier, on Voice of America's "Inside Business," a weekly international radio news show broadcast from Washington to listeners residing in 44 countries around the globe. Headquartered in Denver, Air Methods is the largest exclusive provider of air medical transportation systems and services in the U.S.
This prediction is based on a new study recently completed by WinterGreen Research Inc. for Air Methods. WinterGreen is the health care econometric forecasting arm of Frost & Sullivan, an international market research company. According to Air Methods, the WinterGreen/Frost & Sullivan study identified various key factors propelling worldwide growth in air medical transportation programs over the next 10 years, particularly the anticipated growth in the U.S. aeromedical market. The more significant factors include:
-- There is a growing awareness throughout the world's hospital
community that helicopters and jet aircraft can bring an
equivalent intensive care unit to the scene of an accident or
the site of a referring hospital. The realization of this
phenomenon will continue to produce important health care
advantages worldwide, including the reduction of patient
mortality rates, increases in patient survivability, decreased
lengths of patient convalescence periods, and dramatically
 reduced patient health care costs.
-- Overseas military budgets are giving way to priority domestic
health care expenditures. As the world's large industrialized
countries downsize their historic defense expenditures,
aviation equipment, especially helicopters and jet aircraft,
will increasingly become an integral part of various countries'
 domestic health care policies.
-- Helicopters can optimally deliver sophisticated, on-site
medical care to under-developed regions throughout the world.
For example, in parts of Africa, there is increasing interest
in airborne acute medical care programs because of the lack of
good roads and quick transportation means. In fact, the
delivery of health care to some areas of the Third World will
likely serve as flying airborne medical clinics.
Air Methods is the largest exclusive provider of state-of-the-art emergency air medical transportation systems and services to hospitals throughout the United States. The company utilizes only instrument flight rules (IFR)-certified pilots and aircraft, including 24 helicopters and five airplanes, to perform these services. In addition, Air Methods offers completely integrated airborne medical systems for administering intensive care to patients while flying to a Level I trauma center or a tertiary care facility, either from outlying hospitals or the scene of an accident.
