AIR METHODS AWARDED CONTRACT TO INITIATE SERVICE
AT ST. LUKE'S HOSPITAL IN DULUTH, MINN.
DENVER, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Methods Corp. (AMEX: ARFEC), the nation's largest exclusive provider of air medical transportation systems and services, today announced its initiation of a long term emergency medical services contract to provide St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minn., a 24-hour-a-day medical helicopter service. St. Luke's Hospital is part of a Minnesota consortium of hospitals served by Life Link III, a not-for-profit cooperative effort of five hospitals throughout the state.
In connection with this arrangement, Air Methods will provide pilots and mechanics to operate an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR)-certified Bell 222 helicopter dedicated for service by Life Link III to St. Luke's Hospital of Duluth. This new emergency air medical program will support St. Luke's Hospital, a 267-bed tertiary care referral facility which is the region's Level II trauma center. The hospital serves more than 417,000 people living within 17 counties around its campus.
In addition, the company today announced the extension of its comprehensive air medical service agreement with Life Link III through 1998. This long term contract represents continued significant incremental revenues for the company. Air Methods has served this consortium of hospitals (which includes the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinic; Abbott Northwestern Hospital; and St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center) since July 1985, with two IFR-certified helicopters. Minneapolis Children's Medical Center and St. Luke's Hospital of Duluth joined the Life Link III consortium in 1990 as associate members.
Commenting upon the significance of today's announcements, W. Terrance Schreier, chairman and CEO of Air Methods, explained, "We are extremely gratified by the confidence shown by the Life Link III consortium of Minnesota-based hospitals as evidenced by these new developments. With the extension of our services to St. Luke's Hospital of Duluth, Air Methods now serves 40 hospitals located in 10 states under 17 dedicated long-term operating agreements."
Air Methods is the largest exclusive provider of state-of-the-art emergency air medical transportation systems and services to hospitals throughout America. The company utilizes only IFR-certified pilots and aircraft, including 26 helicopters and five airplanes, to perform these services. In addition, Air Methods offers completely integrated airborne medical systems for administering intensive care to patients while flying to a Level I trauma center or a tertiary care facility, either from outlying hospitals or the scene of an accident.
