AIR FORCE RETIREES NEEDED TO TEACH.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway.  - Air Force retirees are being sought to serve as instructors at Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps units nationwide.

Forty-eight units are opening this fall at high schools from Maryland Maryland (mâr`ələnd), one of the Middle Atlantic states of the United States. It is bounded by Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean (E), the District of Columbia (S), Virginia and West Virginia (S, W), and Pennsylvania (N).  to California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  as part of a congressionally mandated expansion that began in 1999. An additional 160 schools are on waiting lists for units.

Needed to teach in the new units are 398 officers and noncommissioned officers non·com·mis·sioned officer

Applicants must have retired from active duty within the past five years. Airmen on active duty may apply for positions when they are within six months of their retirement date. Instructors must be recertified every three years to five years.

The minimum pay for instructors is equal to the difference between their retirement pay and their active-duty pay and allowances. Some school districts might pay more than the minimum.
