                 ADDITIONAL WORK ON FIVE-YEAR EPA CONTRACT
    BRANCHBURG, N.J., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Metcalf & Eddy (NASDAQ: METC), a subsidiary of Air & Water Technologies Corporation (AMEX: AWT), has been awarded $2.8 million of additional work under an option contained in a five-year task order contract with the Environmental Protection Agency.  The EPA is exercising an option for work under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) portion of a Technical Enforcement Support Contract (TES X) awarded to the firm in March 1989.
    Under the TES X agreement, Metcalf & Eddy has performed a variety of ongoing services at hazardous waste sites throughout EPA Regions V, VI, and VII.  The work includes site investigations, compliance evaluations, and supervision of contractors hired to perform remediation and cleanup by those alleged to have contaminated the sites, known as the potentially responsible parties.  Since the project began, Metcalf & Eddy has been executing work assignments at approximately 500 locations.
    Other related work being performed by Metcalf & Eddy includes process engineering design, waste characterization and certification, data management, and public and community relations.  The contract is funded by the EPA through RCRA and CERCLA, the Superfund law.
