 AIR & WASTE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION SOUTHWEST SECTION RECOGNIZED
 FOR OUTSTANDING ACTIVITY
 KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Air & Waste Management Association's Southwest Section, with chapters in Texas and Oklahoma, will receive the association's George T. Minasian Award for the most outstanding record of activity and accomplishment during the previous year, it was announced today.
 Richard E. Flannery, Southwest Section chair and director of programs at Texas Air Control board in Bellaire, Texas, will accept the award tomorrow at the Honors & Awards Ceremony in Kansas City, held during the association's 85th Annual Meeting & Exhibition at the Kansas City Convention Center.
 Activities of the Southwest Section over the past year include cosponsoring a specialty conference on optical remote sensing, holding workshops on air pollution control and waste management issues and providing scholarship to support college students studying in the environmental field. During the last year, the section experienced an 18 percent membership growth.
 The award is named for the late George T. Minasian in memory of his many years of distinguished service to the association in the cause of clean air and for his local section activities.
 The Air & Waste Management Association is a non-profit, technical and educational organization with 13,000 members in more than 50 countries. Founded in 1907, the association provides a neutral forum where all sides of an environmental issue receive equal consideration.

 /EDITORS: Members of the press may attend the annual meeting and exhibition free of charge when they register in the press room, which is located on the first floor of the convention center.
