SunAmerica Retirement Markets, Inc. today announced a new enhancement to the popular MarketLock(TM) feature: the option for lifetime income. The enhanced MarketLock, available on the company's Polaris(R) and Seasons(R) variable annuities Variable annuities

their retirement savings, no matter what happens in the financial markets.

MarketLock--a "maximum anniversary value" guaranteed minimum withdrawal benefit--locks in investment gains to create an income stream that can only increase with the market and never decline due to market volatility.

Investors who elect MarketLock can be guaranteed not to outlive their income if they wait until their 65th birthday or later to begin taking withdrawals of up to 5% of their benefit.

"MarketLock, with its new lifetime income option, is an ideal living benefit for today's investor. It helps overcome major obstacles to a successful retirement--including inflation, market volatility and outliving your money," said Robert Scheinerman, Senior Vice President of AIG SunAmerica Retirement Markets, Inc. "The feature works by offering flexible, unrestricted investing, locking in market gains, and providing guarantees to generate retirement income for as long as you live."

"The first Baby Boomers See generation X.  have already turned 60 and are genuinely concerned about both protecting their nest eggs and not outliving their income," Scheinerman continued. "MarketLock now addresses these concerns in an even more powerful way. We provide the opportunity to lock in and protect an income to last a lifetime based on your best year in the feature. Unlike so many of our competitors' options, we do not restrict your investment choices and we will not increase your fee rate."

MarketLock is easy to use, since investors do not need to call in or submit forms to lock in their gains--MarketLock steps up automatically and locks in investment gains annually for 10 years--even after withdrawals begin, with no changes in the fee percentage. On the 10th anniversary, MarketLock can also be extended to step up for 20 years, with the fees and benefits in effect at the time of step up.

A Powerful Solution for Managing Retirement Risks

generation will likely live longer and more actively than any previous generation. However, this longer and more active life comes with rising costs (including healthcare), serious shortfalls in savings and pensions, and uncertainty about Social Security. Equity investments may help nest eggs keep pace -- but investors are concerned about market volatility. MarketLock can be a powerful solution to investor concerns:

--Loss of Purchasing Power Purchasing Power

1. The value of a currency expressed in terms of the amount of goods or services that one unit of money can buy. Purchasing power is important because, all else being equal, inflation decreases the amount of goods or services you'd be able to purchase.

Investors who choose MarketLock have no investment restrictions. They can allocate assets to any investment options in their variable annuity--including equity options for greater growth potential--and are not forced to put 20% or more of their investment in fixed income options, as they might be in similar features from other companies. Also, once a year on the contract anniversary during the first 10 years, or 20 years if extended, MarketLock locks in investment gains automatically with the potential for higher and higher retirement paychecks.

--Market Volatility

MarketLock protects against risk and volatility with guarantees that retirement income will not go down due to market volatility--no matter how the market performs.

--Outliving Money

Investors who elect MarketLock and take withdrawals of 5% or less annually beginning on or after their 65th birthday are guaranteed annual "retirement paychecks" for as long as they live.

MarketLock must be elected when the contract is issued and is available only to investors aged 75 or younger at purchase. Contract owners must adhere to adhere to

The additional annual fee for MarketLock is 0.65% of the withdrawal benefit for as long as the investor remains invested in the contract or until the investor cancels the feature. To be included in the withdrawal benefit, purchase payments must be made within the first two years; payments after the first two years will be excluded. MarketLock cannot be elected in combination with other living benefit options offered in the same contract. Excess withdrawals outside the parameters of the feature may negatively affect the investor's level of guaranteed income.

An investment in a variable annuity, like any investment in market securities, involves investment risk, including possible loss of principal. The contract, when redeemed, could be worth more or less than the total amount invested. The living and death benefits in variable annuities, while not a guarantee of contract value, were specifically designed to help protect future income and the beneficiary's inheritance against these risks.
