Risk and Insurance Management Society Recognizes Jointly-Developed

Electronic Accountability System at Annual RIMS Conference

in San Diego 

AIG Consultants, Inc. (AIGC), a member company of American International Group, Inc. (AIG), and Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff (BPB), a joint venture serving as the program management consultant for the Boston Central Artery and Tunnel (CAT) Project, were awarded the 2004 Arthur Quern Quality Award. Presented at the annual Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) conference in San Diego, CA, the AIG Consultants Safety Division and BPB received the award for the joint development and implementation of an Electronic Accountability System (EAS) designed for personnel tracking during the CAT Project.

The Arthur Quern Quality Award recognizes significant contributions within the field of risk management that raise the quality of products, processes, programs, systems and services. The Award acknowledges current activities and programs that demonstrate sustainable and measurable results through an innovative quality improvement process.

The Electronic Accountability System, a component of the overall CAT Project safety plan, was created for use in case of an emergency or evacuation during tunnel construction. Traditional systems used in the construction and risk management industries were not adequate for the scope of the CAT project, which included over 100 access and egress points into and out of the construction site. The unique EAS was designed to ensure that rescue agencies could quickly determine if workers were left behind in the event of an incident that required the evacuation of tunnel work areas.

This is the second time AIG has received the Arthur Quern Quality Award. In 2002, AIG's Performance Management Group was awarded the Quern for creating a quality initiative to improve the timeliness and accuracy of policy issuance.
