AIDS strikes porn-movie business.

Los Angeles--Darren James? Lara Roxx? Have moviegoers among our readership ever heard of these two? Perhaps not, as they are stars only of the Los Angeles-based U.S. porn movie industry. The business, though sleazy slea·zy

But, in consequence of Mr. James' testing positive for HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  in mid-April, porn production has been halted until at least June 8.

Porn producers have their own medical services which regularly test the twelve hundred "stars" for HIV. Physicians there report that about 1/5 of the performers use condoms. Porn "actors," who mostly live from paycheque to paycheque, may suffer materially from the shutdown, but, as the public appetite for this "product" seems insatiable, the industry itself does not fear financial ruin. Plans are already afoot to double shooting schedules once the moratorium ends. And there are always plenty of starry-eyed newcomers, like Ms. Roxx, ready to take a chance in the cause of fame and fortune (Files from Star, Sun).
