When they are not barbecuing food, social workers prepare meals off site and transport them to the Camarillo Airport facility. ``We have to cook food away from there and bring it to them,'' Jenks said. ``It's real primitive and real temporary. But it's summer, and we're all adapting.'' Another problem facing RAIN officials is that they need permission to stay at their current site longer because ARC administrators do not intend to leave the Lewis Road facility until Nov. 1. The entire 57-acre parcel, on which the 15,000-square-foot ARC building and other care facilities are situated, is owned by the state. But a bill by state Sen. Plans call for the county to allow the RAIN project to occupy the ARC building for little or no leasing fee with the health service responsible for maintenance costs. ``It's basically an old dormitory, so it would work for them,'' said Fred Robinson, ARC's executive director. ``A lot of the space in here we don't use anyway.'' ARC administrators are moving to a building on Walker Street in Ventura at the request of the county. RAIN operated two programs at the former Camarillo State Hospital grounds last winter - its regular 24-hour program for river dwellers and those in need of transitional housing as well as those in need of cold weather sheltering, who slept at the shelter and went to school or jobs during the day. That program was funded by the county Human Services Agency's adult protective services In the United States, Adult Protective Services (APS) are social services provided to abused, neglected, or exploited older and/or disabled adults. APS is typically administered by local or state health, aging, or regulatory departments and includes a multi-disciplinary office. ``We're not doing anything with cold weather sheltering this upcoming season,'' Jenks said. ``The cities are going to have to make provisions for whatever type of services they want.''
