Fisher Charles Thomas Fisher (1880-1963) was an American businessman and an automotive pioneer. Born in Norwalk, Ohio, Charles was the second son of Lawrence and Margaret Fisher. Fisher told the Journal, "I was delighted to be considered, and to be selected by a panel of that stature was an even greater honor. I think the award reflects not only on me personally but also on the NBD organization. I had a lot of CPAS working with me over there, and we had some good fortune." Fisher recalled, "I was notified on Saturday, February 2, 1957, that I had received my CPA certificate. At that time, I was working for Touche, Niven, Bailey & Smart, a predecessor to Deloitte & Touche. Back then, I had no vision of moving into the banking business. I intended to remain a practicing CPA." He said he thoroughly enjoyed his years as a public practitioner and found the experience valuable after he entered the banking business. "One of the reasons I enjoyed public accounting so much," he said, "was the opportunity it offered to take a close look at many different businesses. That background and experience were very helpful when I moved into a management position." Fisher said he has been a member of the AICPA AICPA See American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). and the Michigan Association of CPAS "from day one." As he looked at the profession, his plimary concern centered around the potential for overregulation resulting from government pressure. He admitted, "Having been in a highly regulated industry like banking, I am sensitive to that issue, particularly when I see overregulation creeping into my chosen profession." |
