AICPA Foundation Awards grant to help practitioners become academicians.A $25,000 grant has been awarded by the AICPA AICPA See American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Foundation to AACSB International the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business--to fund scholarships for its Bridge Program (The CPA Letter, Aug.), which helps business professionals transition to university teaching positions. The grant money was used as individual financial aid to enroll six CPAs in the first Bridge Program, held Oct. 22-27, at the University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States). , Irvine. Award recipients' professional experience ranges from eight to 30 years in public or private accounting, and with a strong emphasis on audit and/or tax work. The AACSB Bridge Program is a five-day intensive seminar to help senior business leaders prepare for faculty positions in business schools. The program was developed for AACSB by the Paul Merage School of Business UC Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business Formerly known as the Graduate School of Management, the school was renamed in Spring 2005 to the Paul Merage School of Business, after receiving a generous donation by philanthropist, entrepreneur, and Chef America founder, Paul at the University of California, Irvine, and the Marshall School of Business The Marshall School of Business (also known as USC Marshall School of Business) is the business school at the University of Southern California. It is the largest of USC's 17 professional schools. The current Dean is James G. Ellis. at the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission . Business professionals must have a master's degree, as well as professional experience of significant duration and responsibility related to the area of teaching assignment, to be eligible for the AACSB Bridge Program. Candidates with a master's degree in a non-business field, but who have significant work experience in a business teaching area, may also be eligible.
